Samsung’s Gift Leads to Another
Samsung North American President Dong Jin Oh is awarded
the Order of St. Maurice by MG (Ret) Jerry White at a dinner
celebrating Samsung’s $1 million gift to the National
Infantry Foundation.

Columbus, Georgia – November 17, 2006: The
president of Samsung North America braved a gray, cold and misty
day in Columbus, Georgia, to give the new National Infantry Museum
and Heritage Park a million dollar boost.
President Dong-Jin Oh presented a donation of $1
million before a crowd of more than 100 people, many of them veterans
of the Korean War. The gift was in appreciation of the sacrifices
made 53 years ago by nearly half a million Americans who fought
to defend Korea’s freedom.
“It is because of them,” Oh said, “that
the people in the Republic of Korea have had half a century of peace,
built a dynamic democracy and a thriving economy. In this light,
Samsung is extremely honored to do its share in contributing to
this important project.”
This is not the first time Seoul-based Samsung
has demonstrated its support of the American military. In 1995,
the electronics giant contributed significantly to the construction
of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Oh said
Samsung has pledged to continue strengthening the two nations’
ties with future donations.
“Samsung’s dedication to the American
military is a shining example for all good corporate citizens,”
said National Infantry Foundation Chair MG (Ret.) Jerry White. “It
is especially meaningful that such a generous gift has come from
outside the United States. It truly demonstrates the importance
of this museum on a global level.”
Joining in the check presentation was National
Infantry Foundation Advisory Board Chair General Ed Burba, former
commanding general of the combined filed army of the Republic of
Korea and United States in South Korea. MG Kwanbin Lim, who also
traveled from Korea for the ceremonies, was instrumental in securing
the Samsung donation.
Korean Consulate General Kwang Jae-Lee traveled
from Atlanta, and surprised the Foundation with the announcement
of an additional $500,000 gift from the Korean government.
Events surrounding the check presentation on November
16 drew dozens of both Korean and American veterans of the war,
from both nations. The Atlanta Korean Senior Association provided
entertainment with their colorful costumes and traditional drum
music.
