Architect Selection Process
Underway
Columbus, Georgia -- February 4, 2004: The
National Infantry Foundation has narrowed its list of potential
architects for the new, $70 million National Infantry Museum and
Heritage Park to six.
In January, the Foundation sent invitations to
20 architectural firms – national, regional and local –
to submit their qualifications. All but two sent representatives
to Columbus for a pre-proposal orientation session January 13. After
reviewing their qualifications, six firms were selected to present
their proposals in late February. They include:
- Calloway Johnson Moore & West, P.A. – Winston-Salem,
North Carolina
- E. Verner Johnson and Associates, Inc. – Boston, Massachusetts
- Fentress Bradburn Architects, LTD – Denver, Colorado
- Glavé and Holmes Associates – Richmond, Virginia
- Leo A. Daly – Atlanta, Georgia
- SmithGroup – Washington, D.C.
All of the firms on the short list have experience
in major museum design, and some have experience with military museums.
Three local firms also submitted proposals. Hecht,
Burdeshaw, Johnson, Kidd and Clark, Inc. Architects was selected
to partner with the national firm that wins the contract. Foundation
executives believe it will be important to have ongoing local involvement
in the design and construction processes.
After reviewing their presentations, a selection
committee will make a recommendation to the Foundation leadership.
An announcement naming the designers of the world-class facility
is expected in March.
