Robert S.
Poydasheff United States Army (Ret) Mayor of Columbus,
Georgia
Robert S. Poydasheff is currently the Mayor of
Columbus, Georgia. Prior to becoming Mayor he was a City Councilor
from 1994 to 2002. He retired from the United States Army as a Colonel.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two
Oak Leaf Clusters; Bronze Star Medal; Commendation Medal with Oak
Leaf Cluster; Badge of Army Secretariat; Parachutist Badge; and
the Vietnam Ribbon with four Battle Stars. His military career highlights
include: Legislative Counsel to Secretary of Army; Legal Counsel
to Secretary of Defense on Labor Relations; Staff Judge Advocate
(Senior Counsel); Chief Counsel for senior, high ranking officers
involved in the My Lai incident and Post Exchange scandals. Mayor
Poydasheff was also Senior Vice President, Trust Company Bank of
Columbus, Georgia.
He holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina; a Juris Doctor
degree from Tulane University College of Law; a M.A. degree in International
Relations from Boston University (Graduate Program, Berlin, Germany).
He also attended The Hague Academy of International Law (Attaindre,
Summer 1966).
He is a former Chairman of the Civilian-Military
Council; Past President of the Chattahoochee Valley Association
of the United States Army; Past President of the Columhus Symphony;
Founding Member of the Columbus Young Lawyers Club; 32nd Degree
Mason and Shriners; Kiwanis Club member; a member of the Chamber
of Commerce as well as many others. He also received the Infantry
Order of St. Maurice in 1999.
He is married to the former Anastasia Catherine
Latton. Their daughter Catherine Ross and son Robert S. Poydasheff,
Jr., live in Columbus.
