MG Kenneth
C. Leuer (Ret)

Kenneth C. Leuer, Major General (Retired), U.S.
Army, a native of Wayzata, Minnesota, has distinguished himself
as a career soldier, athlete and executive.
While at Wayzata, he was a two-time state wrestling
champion and won all-state honors in football. Kenneth went on to
a distinguished athletic career at the University of Iowa where
he won a Big Ten wrestling title and was an NCAA Champion in 1956.
Upon graduation that year he entered the Army, which he served for
thirty-two years rising to the rank of Major General. His service
included tours with the 82nd Airborne Division; 2nd Division; Special
Forces; 173rd Airborne Brigade (Vietnam); Pentagon; Battalion Commander;
101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) Vietnam; 1st Battalion, 75th
Ranger Regiment, which he activated and organized; Commander, 1st
Brigade, 24th Division; Chief of Staff and Assistant Division Commander,
4th Mechanized Division; Commanding General, 193rd Brigade; Assistant
Commandant, United States Army Infantry Center; DSCOPS, C-3, J-3,
G-3, Korea; Commanding General, 5th Mechanized Division, and Commanding
General/Chief of Infantry, United States Army Infantry Center.
Upon his retirement from active service on 1 October
1988, he became the President/CEO of Goodwill Industries until his
second retirement on 1 August 1999. MG Leuer is currently serving
as the Chairman of the Ranger Memorial Foundation, Inc., a non-profit
organization dedicated to recognizing U.S. Army Rangers, past, present,
and future.
Major General Leuer’s many awards and decorations
include the Combat Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist
Badge, Special Forces Tab, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion
of Merit, Bronze Star (2), Air Medal (13), and other service and
foreign awards. He was a Charter Inductee into the Ranger Hall of
Fame and has been awarded the Order of Saint Maurice, Primicerius
level. His achievements have also earned him the "Distinguished
Alumni Award" from Wayzata High School (1992); "Distinguished
Alumni" from the Minnesota State High School Athletic Director
Association (1988); "The Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame"
(1999); "The University of Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame –
Lifetime Achievement Award" (2001); and in June 2002 he was
inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
MG Leuer and his wife Sally, of 43 years, have
three children and seven grandchildren. The Leuers reside in Midland,
a suburb of Columbus, Georgia.
