Richard A. Kidd is a native of Morehead, Kentucky.
He was the second born into a Military family of five children.
He joined the U.S. Army on 30 March 1962, serving in every leadership
position from Squad Leader to Corps Command Sergeant Major. In 1991
he was selected to become the 9th Sergeant Major of the Army and
served in that position four years until his retirement on 30 June
1995. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service
Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster; Defense Superior Service Medal;
Legion of Merit with One Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious
Service Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Medal; Army Commendation
Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with
Palm; Army Staff Identification Badge; Combat Infantry Badge; Master
Parachutist Badge; Military Free Fall Badge; Special Forces Tab
and the Outstanding Civilian Service Award.
After retirement from the U.S. Army, he immediately
joined Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) where he is
presently Vice President GFR Sales/Military Departments and the
Top 5 Club. He continues to serve Military members and their Families
through his association with GEICO, membership in twelve Military
associations and positions with the following organizations: Armed
Services Young Mens Christian Association (ASYMCA), Board of Directors;
Association United States Army (AUSA), Advisory Board of Directors
and Vice Chairman Council of Trustees NCO and Soldier Affairs; and
United Services Organization Metro (USO-Metro), honorary member
BOD. After retirement he served for four years as Co-Chairman of
the U.S. Army CSA Retiree Council.
He holds an Associate in Science and Bachelor of Science, Sociology
from Regents College, University of the state of New York. He and
his wife, Sylvia, reside in Fairfax, Virginia. Their daughter, Shelly
and her husband, Erik, live in Bellingham, Washington, and their
son, Ryan, and his wife, Karen, reside in Denver, Colorado.
