General Edwin H. Burba (Ret)

General Edwin H. Burba, Jr. became Commander-In-Chief of Forces Command in September 1989. Prior to that, he was Commanding General of the combined field army of the Republic of Korea and United States.

Born in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1936, General Burba was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy in 1959. He holds a Master of Science degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advance courses, the Armed Forces Staff College and the National War College.

During his 34 years of service, General Burba served in Airborne, Air Assault, Light Infantry, Special Forces, Mechanized Infantry, Psychological Operations and Basic Training Units. He served two combat tours in Vietnam, commanded the Infantry School/Center, and commanded units from platoon through field and theater army levels. He served in joint tours as Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, Army; as Chief of Field Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and as Commander-In-Chief of Forces Command. He served a combined tour as Commander of the Combined Field Army (Republic of Korea – U.S.). He also performed duties at the Military Personnel Center where he was in charge of assignments/professional development of Infantry officers worldwide.

His decorations include the Defense and Army Distinguished Service Medals with Oak Leaf Clusters, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He is a Master Parachutist; Ranger qualified and has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Since retirement, General Burba has worked extensively as a Senior Mentor with the Army’s Battle Command Training Program. He continues to conduct leadership and Management consultations in the private sector and serves on Government, Community and Corporate Boards.

General Burba and his wife Trish have three daughters.
